How to prepare for a cardiology appointment

15 October 2026

A little preparation can help you describe your symptoms clearly and make the most of your cardiology appointment.

Bring your medication list and previous results

Write down the names and doses of your medicines, including non-prescription medicines and supplements. Bring any previous ECGs, echocardiograms, blood test results and hospital reports.

Make a brief note of your symptoms

Think about when symptoms began, how often they occur and what makes them better or worse. Be ready to discuss previous illnesses, surgery, allergies and family history of heart disease.

Prioritise your questions

Write down the questions you do not want to forget. For example: Which tests do I need? How will I receive the results? When should I return for follow-up? Taking brief notes during the appointment may also help.

Do I need any special preparation?

Preparation depends on the planned investigation. Ask the team arranging your appointment whether fasting or any other preparation is needed.
